The materials I work with often change with the
season, fashion trends or the interest of my customers. Semiprecious stones tend to have a more earthy feel than many other materials. Depending on the combination of accent choices, the style is usually
rather organic or ethnic in impression. Some of my favorites are
Fluorite, Tourmaline, Iolite, Fancy Jasper, Turquoise and Carnelian.
The variety of material changes often, especially after I shop at the
Tucson Gem & Mineral Show!
Freshwater Pearls are very versatile and are
one of my favorite beads to work with. Most of those that I use
are farmed in Japan and then sent to Hong Kong for drilling and export.
Pearls are often treated in different ways to enhance the color or even
to encourage the oyster to produce a specific shape. I prefer not to
use any materials which are dyed in extreme colors, or those altered by
faceting. The quality of pearls varies widely and I select the ones
that I use by hand so that I can inspect the luster, texture, color and
shape. When used in combination with stone, Freshwater Pearls seem to
add a layer of especially feminine detail. Used on their own, pearls are
universally appealing.

Lake Blue - Kyanite Coin Earrings The color blue is said to have a calming effect. The soft, shimmering surface of this pair of blue Kyanite bead also is reminiscent of the still surface of a lake. Smoky Grey Pearl Lariat Simple, yet elegant, this design concentrates the details of shape and texture at the ends of the tasseled center. Pale Peach - Tasseled Drop Earrings The soft peach shade of the Freshwater pearls used in this design are very complementary to many skin tones. The texture of the baroque shape at the top and is paired with three smooth, nearly round pearls swinging from the bottom of the Sterling chain. Pearl Harmony - Captive Necklace Snowy white, misty grey, iridescent slate - light, medium, dark - with a mixture of tones and simple textures this is a necklace that goes with everything. The Sterling chain carries five tiny Balinese silver droplets, accenting the pendants on the left and right. Rosy Neutrals - Botswana Agate Double Strand Necklace This triple strand necklace is the most substantial design in a recent color group built around the semiprecious stone - Botswana Agate. Varying in shades from a pale creamy beige and brick pink to smoky taupe and deep charcoal, this stone frequently contains stripes and striations of differing width and hue. The neutral quality of the stones makes them blend well with colors such as; cream, oatmeal, pink, tan, brown, grey and black.Carried on strands composed of two sizes and shades of bisque pink seed beads and oblong Freshwater pearls. Merlot Grid and Pendulum - Garnet Necklace Deliberately askew, the fall of the Garnet pendants on this necklace are meant to catch the eye. Garnet can sometimes be so deep a red that it almost looks black. These stones were especially selected because the rich wine-like color can easily be seen. The small drops of Garnet and Freshwater pearl are linked along the Sterling chain and draw focus to the grid-like element at the center.
